Sprint tune on mk2 pcm?

Seanno

Recommended Posts

I've just picked up a F6E mk2 in stock form and was curious if it's safe or possible to load a sprint tune on for a little kw gain without going to get a custom tune (no mods so don't see the point just yet), and if anyone has a zf tune I could buy that can firm up the shifts without killing a stock box?

Currently have enthusiast level but happy to upgrade if needed to do any of this, can get details on pcm strategy when I'm home Sunday...

This has been done before and it does work. I am not sure if there are restrictions on what MK 2s will accept the Sprint calibration so If you can send us the catch code on the door so we can check if it has been done before and also if the injectors are the same as the ones used in the Sprint calibration.

Enthusiast version will not do the ZF calibration. We helped a customer with the Professional version copy over all the ZF parameters from the Sprint and he said it drove amazing.

Thanks Darryl I'll get the catch code as soon as I get back from work Sunday, would you like me to post it here or send it to the support email. Is the copying of the zf sprint calibration time consuming as I'm only home for a limited time to do this stuff which is why I was happy to pay for it if there's a copy on record I can use

Pefectly happy to upgrade to the professional version, which I'll contact you guys through email to get that done at the same time.

Seanno with release 0.63 of the editor the copying over the Sprint calibrations (PCM and /or ZF) will take seconds. There are a coupe of ways to do this:

  1. Comparing the two tunes, select all the differences and clicking "Apply".
  2. Create a stock file using code HAER1UB and merge your existing Vehicle information in.

Option 2 will create a complete Sprint strategy for flashing and can be used to before you license your car. This can then be used to license your vehicle and saves using an extra set of credits if you do not want to license your original strategy.

We will happily walk you through this if you decide to proceed.

Just thought I'd throw it out there - if you're putting the Sprint tune (PCM wise, definitely use the ZF cal though) onto any FG FPV car I'd be conscious of whether it'd actually gain power! Reason being the Sprint motor is based on the XR6 turbo internally with an 8.8:1 comp; whereas the FPVs run 8.47:1.

Hey Nat, Where did you come across this information?

Hi Whiteford,

I originally heard they used the XR6 turbo internals from an interview with Justin Capicchiano (Sprint project manager); I can't specifically find which one it was but here's a link which slightly touches on the subject of the changes: https://www.motoring.com.au/is-fords-falcon-xr-sprint-australias-quickest-car-101758/ (note they have for some reason rounded the comp ratio up for both FPV & XR6T).

Also on which injectors the sprint uses - it's should use the same as all FG F6's (8R29-9F593-CA) whereas all FG/FG-X turbos use BG-9F593-B.

Appears I was too slow to edit my post; I missed the part stating I am not certain on which one the sprint uses; from other posts before it would seem as they kept the same injectors from the turbo models, and not the F6 injectors.
