Ford Focus Direct Injection blending (pressure, SOI)

Recommended Posts

The 15+ Ford Focus employees a blending factor between two sets of tables within a temperature range of 175°f to 180°F This affects multiple tables. The injection pressure is discussed below, however there are many other items (SOI and injection timing that also have two sets of timing which need to be considered.

The blending factor for the cold and base dI tables is
MID43633 blending factor for intake timing tables

During normal operation the following two tables are blended

auF30278
1021

auF30279 Cold table

1020

the Y axis is determined by MID MID57740 "lb of fuel per combustion event" hence the very small numbers". Datalogging this and rpm will allow you to map trace this table.

The blending factor is determined via the following temperature range

ID    Name    Value    Stock    Units    Description
auF34838    Below which intake timing will be 100% auF29902    175    175        Below which intake timing will be 100% auF29902 and pressure auF30279
ID    Name    Value    Stock    Units    Description
auF34839    Above which intake timing will be 100% auF29904    180    180        Above which intake timing will be 100% auF29904 and pressure auF30278

Ensure that auF34839 is higher than auF34838 other wise this will break the blend/ramp

Finally there is a rail pressure clip based on ECT temperature which must be set if you plan to go above 2900 psi

1025

There is also a minimum fuel pressure clip set here:

ID    Name    Value    Stock    Units    Description
auF32830    Minimum set point for the FRP.    200    200        Minimum set point for the FRP.

On startup there is another MID to check MID05038 - DI cold after start mode desired

If this is true the following table is used (cranking only I believe)

1019

When CAS mode is used, the following fuel pressure is used. This once again uses very small values.

When in CSER mode the following table is used
1023

Whilst flex fuel is not enabled in these cars, the FFV tables are present. To ensure that the FFV tables are not being used, check that the following table is entirely 0.

The final desired pressure will then be loggable via MID35950 Final desired FRP

Nice info, thanks Roland.
I have to play with this set extensively when we go to the biggest injectors for the RS or they run terribly when cold due to the factory settings running them well below their knee point.

A requirement when going to a bigger DI pump as well as you often have to reduce pressures in these cases.

Indeed.
Fun fact, the latest generation of XDI's uprated high pressure fuel pumps for the 2.0 and 2.3 Ecoboost are only rated to 2600psi.
300psi LESS than the factory RS pump, so when running standard injectors you just wasted almost £2000!

A conversation i have to have with "Saturday night after beer" purchasers all too often.
Sadly, the end user thinks 2600psi sounds a lot. Until they learn the factory one already does 2900 psi and they were out of injector, not pump.
